Due to unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances, 2020 has definitely been the year of the rise of the remote worker. Many people worked from home before COVID and many will continue to do so if and when there is ever an ‘after COVID’.

I know a lot of people have missed the office environment, their colleagues and their friends so perhaps Christmas could be a great chance to remind them of how much they mean to you. There might be a super bargain waiting for you in the Black Friday sales.

Below I have listed numerous products for those designers, creators and engineers in your life who spend most of their day at their computer, let’s spruce up those working from home environments or just make their day that little bit more enjoyable…

Working from Home

Moft Laptop Stands

I first discovered the MOFT line of ‘invisible’ laptop stands from a Kickstarter campaign and have since bought 2 of their products. I got the laptop stand and followed that up with the 5 in 1 sit and stand desk stand.

The 5 in 1 is a superb product if you want the versatility of a standing desk without the cost of buying one or even just raising your laptop up at an angle that doesn’t hurt your neck from prolonged use, plus, it folds down flat so very easy to store and take away with you. Personally ❤️ these, and if you’re quick there are further discounts in their Black Friday sale.

Aeropress Coffee Kit

The Aeropress is a really affordable solution to up your coffee game for when those deadlines are fast approaching ☕️

Anker Wireless Charging Bundle ⚡️

Anker is a company where if I’m not buying an official Apple product, I’ll happily go to them for a high quality yet more affordable, version. The pad and stand bundle, despite not coming with an AC adapter, is really handy for charging your Apple and Samsung devices.

Another great product from Anker, the quality of these noise cancelling headphones is right up there and perfect to avoid those background distractions while working from home.

USB Powered Ring Light

If you work in an area of your house without a lot of natural light, I’d definitely recommend a ring light for those video conference calls we’ve all gotten into a habit of making this year. Amazon have a wide range of ring lights available, such as this USB powered one for under £20/$25

Pantone Mug

You’re going to need somewhere to pour that excellent Aeropress coffee into, so why not treat yourself to one of many Pantone mugs. Available on Amazon from as little as £9/$12 as a single mug, pick a colour that matches the aesthetic of your working from home space.

Typodarium 2021

A calendar that brings you a fresh font every day would look amazing on any designer’s desk. These are available on Amazon for around £15/$20.

For Parents & Big Kids 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Let’s not pretend that working from home wasn’t difficult at times, more difficult if you happen to have kids of ranging ages around the home so here’s a selection of gifts and gadgets that kids and parents can enjoy together.

LEGO Make Your Own Movie

If your kids are a big a fan of LEGO as mine are, introducing them to creating their own movies is something everyone in the family can enjoy and allow your kids to really explore their creative side.

These are available on Amazon from around £10/$15.

Super Mario Adventures Starter Course

This year’s biggest collaboration without doubt, LEGO and Nintendo joined forces to create Mario Adventure courses. The starter pack is available for around £60/$75 and there are plenty of additional packs to build out those classic Super Mario levels.

Baby Yoda

The Mandalorian has been one of my favourite TV shows this year and you can’t mention Mandalorian without talking about Baby Yoda.

This plush Baby Yoda comes in his very own platform box and wouldn’t look out of place in that home office.

For the home

Amazon Echo 4th Generation

The Amazon Echo is a great way to either build out your smart home or indeed get introduced to it. Here in it’s 4th generation, the new Echo Dot comes in a very compact design, so ideal for a home office to be used for music or a voice assistant while you work and available from around £30 in the Black Friday Sale.

Click and Grow

If 2020 has taught us anything it’s that we’ve got to be more sustainable. The Click and Grow garden is ideal for anyone looking to start growing their own herbs or vegetables. These come in 2 sizes, with the smaller one coming in at around £65.

Ergonomic Bean Bag

Need to get away from the desk? Try a bean bag, these are great, the only issue might be getting back out of them! A decent ergonomic bean bag can come in at around £50 from Amazon.

I hope you find what you’re looking for from this list and find the suggestions useful, let me know in the comments below what you’ve managed to pick up in the Black Friday sales and of course, have a happy holiday when it comes around.
